Cost of a Replacement Weather Warning Siren

This forum topic is a response to an article presented in the May 23rd posting of the Pacer
A new siren costs $17,399? You've got to be kidding. Why doesn't the city just buy a NEW car, mount it on a suitable post, and use the alarm on the vehicle's remote as a siren. Is the city using the same contractors as our federal government?Maybe the city should look in Ebay for a competive price...

Great questions -- maybe you could call city hall (952-882-2660) ask for Fire Chief Joel McColl and post what you learned from him in this blog! My stories don't go into each and every little detail presented in every staff memo because of space constraints and because we're not the City News newsletter, but Joel could explain it. If you could report back, your fellow citizens would be very appreciative!
