'No problem' is a problem

When someone says "Thank you," the standard response over the ageas has been "you're welcome." Now the standard seems to be "no problem." To me, saying "no problem" implies there was a problem to begin with and that my thank you is meaningless. However, that phrase "no problem" has worked it's way into our daily language. Maybe I'll start responding back with "what's the problem?" the next time my thank you is received with the rude "no problem" response. Maybe I can change the ungrateful public one at a time! What about you? Are you bothered by the fact that folks respond to your thank you with "no problem?" And what about those who don't return thank yous? How rude is that? We all need to hear "thank you" every once in awhile, not matter if we're the garbage collector, dog catcher, local politican, boss, or president of the United States!
