Top 6 things I learned in March
The owner’s manual for my GPS clearly stated not to leave the mounting bracket visible in the car. I did and I learned my lesson, my GPS is gone and I’m still not over that. The window was broken and glass is still on the street, like a daily reminder that my Claire (what I named my GPS) is gone.
My family cut me a little slack and helped me out after graduation, but I’m seem to be accumulating more and more bills each month. Now there’s a gym membership fee, my own health insurance, no more gas card to pay for the rising price of gas, car maintenance and some I’m sure I’ve shoved to the back of my mind out of pure discouragement.
My youngest sister, Isabele, joined me for an afternoon at my apartment while our mom was out running some errands. This girl loves all sorts of Keighla-involved physical games. (Like hide the cup, run around the apartment, hide-and-go-seek, pet the neighbor dogs, run around searching for more neighbor dogs, checking to see if the mail man has come- five times, you know, things like that) She’s coming over for a few days later this month, I’m sure she’ll have some more things to teach me, check back.
After spending many, many nights covering the school board, I know some things about each member. Todd doesn’t get a bottle of Dasani water like everyone else, he gets a Starbucks Frappacino, (which, to be fair I should say, he pays for himself)and he’s a picky eater. Sue has a very smart and accomplished daughter when it comes to science. Ron is having some serious computer problems and isn’t sure what he’s going to do about it, but he is enjoying snacking on Easter candy. Vicki has an active three-year-old grand daughter who, like many other young children, enjoy Tom’s personality. Dan is one of the most quotable members, he says some really quality things. Gail really takes her role as a member of the board to heart and listens very carefully taking intense notes and agreeing with an occasional “mmm-hmm.” Nancy reads Parenting magazine and admits to feeling guilty for leaving her family to feed themselves many nights in a row. I enjoy these personalities, they’re working hard to do the best job they can and I admire that.
Police tell me they know it’s spring when they get a motorcycle chase and also when there are car-break ins. Firemen know it’s winter when there’s an influx in carbon monoxide calls. Me? I know it’s spring when it snows, and snows, and snows, and snows some more. Spring is not indicative of warmer, sunnier days after each other, but rather a tease of warm, sunny days disrupted with big, wet, snowflakes. What gives?
I never liked yogurt because of the texture, and now, I do. That’s positive.
What’d you learn?

I'm learning to slow down...
Back to page topI'm learning to slow down after surgery. I thought I could pick up where I left off after being out of work for 10 days for some routine surgery. Wrong. My first 3 hours back and work left me exhausted. I had to come home and take a nap! So, I'm learning to slow down -- not easy for someone like me.
I learned to love my filing...
Back to page topI learned to love my filing cabinet.
It was well-worth the $30 investment at Target to have all of my insurance paperwork, car maintenance receipts and medical information filed and documented when I went through my car accident.
It paid off again when I filed taxes and had receipts from remodeling for energy credits.
Most companies are moving to electronic bills/forms, but I'll still keep file folders on hand.
I'm with you there. I like...
Back to page topI'm with you there. I like having my bills hard copy, somehow I feel more organized than I would if I soley kept track of them electronically.
