Tim Russert

Tim Russert was a giant among journalists and a giant among people. I wept as I watched Meet the Press last Sunday as they showed Russert's now-empty chair and everyone from Tom Brokaw to Bob Dole choked up when talking about Russert.

There was a fantastic aricle about Russert in the Wall Street Journal today. I commend it to you.

Russert was tough but fair. As the WSJ article points out, he also recognized the bias that exists in the media and the importance of diversity in the media. It was this kind of honesty and integrity that made Tim Russert a beloved figure for both the right and the left.

Godspeed Tim Russert and Go Bills!

So now who is going to balance out Brian Williams on NBC? I liked Brian as a reporter; but he's got a tone as an anchor that turns me off. Tim helped defuse that when he was on with Brian. I'm not sure who will take his seat - maybe Tom Brokaw.

Great article by Peggy Noonan about Tim Russert in the WSJ today. Like she wrote, Tim was normal, and we loved him for it. People admire normal people more than they admire abnormal people. The world glamorizes the abnormal (read: famous) people, but at the end of the day, we love normal people who go about their business in a hard working way, and along the way, they love and cherish that which is important: faith, family and freedom. Like Tim's dad often said, "what a country!".
