OK, I think it depends on in

OK, I think it depends on in which room of the house the falling occurs. Kitchen? Yes? Living room or bedroom? Maybe. Bathroom? No! I can't even eat in the bathroom if the food is on a plate. The one time I tried to drink my morning coffee in there while I was getting ready for work, my cat came in and stuck her face in it. Bleh!

I also would not eat anything dropped on the floor of a restaurant or most other public places.

I'm going to agree with Mark

I'm going to agree with Mark on this. I too am a five-second rule follower. Although living with two dogs, I only have about three seconds to safely retrieve the fallen morsel before it becomes part of their diet.

It depends on who is

It depends on who is cleaning the floors. In general, I'd skip eating off of the floor (unless stranded, in a cell, starving, etc.)

I also cringe when people let their dog/cat lick dishes that they plan to use again. Giving a dog scraps is one thing, sharing a plate - ick!

The five-second rule

You know the drill. You drop some food on the floor and you have how many seconds to pick it up without penalty - without it being gross?

Yup, the standard time frame is five seconds.
