Well, some of the richest people in the world work for free or for a low wage. If working hard was commensurate with your wages, then I think the world as we know it would be a very different place.

You're right about the agree

You're right about the agree to disagree part. Political beliefs reflect who you are. Career choices reflect what you do. Therefore, I would argue that political beliefs are more personal than career choices and Tom's attack was more personal than mine.

Tom is your employee so I expect you to defend him, but I wonder how hard he and others are really working if they have time to dialogue with me as they do. Also, I notice that it is okay for him to refer to other people as "morons" in his writing on these blogs. I guess derogatory comments are okay for Pacer staff but not for Pacer readers?!?

Whatever the case, back to my "working hard" argument. The kind of working hard that I am talking about leads to promotions and higher paying jobs. You write that you have worked for dailies and weeklies. I daresay that the editor of the Strib makes more than you do. I daresay that a reporter for the Strib with comparable experience makes more than Tom does. Thus, when I write "if you work hard, you might get a job at a daily paper", that is my context.

I can understand your passion for weekly papers because you work for one. I think what you think of as working hard is perhaps different than what I think of as working hard. As you wrote, let's agree to disagree.

Well, we'll have to agree to

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
The difference I see with Tom's salvo and your salvo is that you lobbed yours at his career choice, thereby making it extremely personal. His salvo was aimed at your political beliefs. While I agree that both fall into the category of "personal opinions," I think that most people would be more offended by someone else's comment on their personal career choice; verses their political beliefs.
And, for the record, I'm not confused when it comes to who works harder. Look at the output of stories for a daily reporter verses weekly reporter. As well, dailies have copy editors, photographers, etc. At weeklies, we do all those roles. Plus we still have time to debate/bicker on line! I've personally worked at both a daily and weekly and I've worked hard for both. And I've hired many a reporter -- several who have come from daily experience -- who will testify that working for a weekly is harder than working for a daily. We all choose our career path by following where our heart tells us we should settle. I personally think the staff of the Savage Pacer serves this community very well and stand by that statement.
Breathe!

Nancy, debate is bickering.

Nancy, debate is bickering. Bickering is debate. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I'm all for keeping it civil but I will respond when your staff dialogues with me and I will respond in kind. Notice if was Mr. Schardin who lobbied the Kennedy conspiracy salvo. I simply responded with a sarcasm of my own.

As to who works harder, you or the daily newspaper people, don't confuse busyness (i.e. working at night to cover the local news) with who works harder. Like it or not, a daily newspaper employee is farther up the newspaper food chain than a weekly newspaper person, so if a person wants to move up in the newspaper business, they would presumably "work hard" and therefore get jobs that are higher up the food chain.

Actually, reporters at weekly newspapers work much harder than those at dailies. We are reporters, editors, copy editors and photographers. We spend many a night in meeting rooms and school gymnasiums, bringing our readers the news that daily papers are "too busy" to bother with. So, Savage Guy, while you say your remark was sarcastic, I must come to the defense of my staff when it comes to your "if youy work hard enough" comment. I agree that a vigorous debate is better than personal attacks, however, you did what you claimed you didn't want to to ... hurl an insult!
What's more, let's give that Kennedy conspiracy thing a rest, please! Good grief!
Now can we move past all the finger pointing on both sides here?
I think this debate illustrates what many voters are sick of -- 16 years of bickering amongst Democrats and Republicans. When Bill Clinton was in the White House, he couldn't do anything right and the same has held true with George W. Bush. I'm all for breaking the chain of the 20-year domination by two families on the U.S. Presidency. Let's hope we can have a choice of political candidates that will give us a break from business as usual in D.C. and allow us to move past the political bickering that has dominated this country for two decades.

Hurling insults is pretty easy for both of us. I can play that game but I would rather engage in vigorous debate.

Afterall, we all know it was a inside job, a government contract killing. Perhaps Bill was starting his evil-doer ways at the age of 17.

Read this story and watch the video. This barbaric sub-human behavior is what we are fighting against. Some call it fear-mongering to talk about it. It is reality and when people are capable of this kind of inhumanity, we should be afraid and we should fight.

We're not saying, or at least I'm not saying, that WMD were there. I'm saying we thought they were there and the "we" includes Democrats and Republicans. On the Democrat side, the "we" includes Clinton, Pelosi, Kerry and Gore among others. On the Republican side, it includes Bush, Cheney, Rice and Powell among others. Repeating that we thought that Iraq had WMD or was making WMD is simply stating the truth. It is not from a Republican handbook or any handbook. It is the truth.

It's tough to prosecute someone when they destroy all the evidence and throw out sacrificial lambs like Scooter Libby to take the fall.

But this is good stuff. You keep insulting me and telling everyone how smart you are and how misinformed anyone who doesn't agree with you is. Again, can't wait until November. I wonder what you're going to do then.

Just because you and the Republicans keep saying they were/are there doesn't mean it's true.
