My family is pretty excited

My family is pretty excited for the olympics to start too! Particularly my 5 year old son!?! Not quite sure how, but he's always talking about the Olympics.
I thought the story of the man who's carrying (or carried) the US flag in the opening cermonies from Sudan was pretty awesome!

To update the gymnastics

To update the gymnastics saga: the other Hamm twin is out. Morgan was in Beijing, and according to the AP: "He aggravated a chronic injury in his left ankle during training in Beijing, and it never responded to treatment."

Boo. It's not a Hamm string (that was pretty bad Ruth Anne, but so irresistable!) injury, but it's too bad - these two could have rocked it. Now I'll have to watch just to see if the rest of the team can make up for it.

But I'm so pumped for it all to start on Friday!

We were fortunate enough to

We were fortunate enough to be living in Seoul, South Korea for the 1988 Olympics and were able to buy tickets that were set aside for members of the U.S military stationed there. We took in a variety of events, to include track and field on a day when the men's preliminary events and the women's final events were taking place. We got to see Ben Johnson and Carl Lewis run in preliminary heats and also saw Flo Jo and Frances Joyner Kersey run to victory in their respective events. We also took in some volleyball games and an equestrian event. Our oldest son, Mikey, was just four years old at the time and went with us to everything. I agree with Keighla, the Olympics are great!

Well, I gotta hand it to him

Well, I gotta hand it to him -- at least he didn't pull a Hamm string...

I know. Boo! Hiss!

My sister was living in Australia when the Olympics were there in 2000 so I've got some pins and things. She paid ridiculous amounts of money to go the the gymnastics practice and a couple other events. I think it's exciting whether or not you know anything about the particular sport because it is, after all, the Olympics.

The closest I got to going to the Olympics was in 1982 when I accompanied my best friend to California for the pre-Olympic trials for gymastics (I am strictly a spectator and have no athletic abilities).

Sad.
I follow gymnastics on

Sad.
I follow gymnastics on a very basic level (as in watch it when it's on TV and get lose a few hours of my life doing so cause it's so entertaining).

And today, I find out Paul Hamm isn't going to the Olympics. Bummer. I love the human interest part of his story - he and his twin brother Morgan were so fun to root for.

I'll still watch, and enjoy it, but really, it's too bad because he's a great asset.

The Olympics are about a month away, and I’m so anxious for it all to start I can hardly stand it.
