Top things I learned in

Top things I learned in February? It was pretty ecclectic, looking back at the calendar.
Here's a sampling of lessons, great and small:
1) Always, always wear your seatbelt - it might keep your head away from, say, the windshield.
2) Cooking Indian curry is great, but it makes your whole house smell like a restaurant.
3) Some wines with a screw cap aren't bogus - (if they don't need to be aged, it's actually better).
4) Volunteering is always worthwhile.
5) How to play craps.
6) How to ice golf.
7) How to go grocery shopping with reusable bags, and buy the correct amount so it all fits in the bags.
8) Starbucks 'discontinued' almond lattes...or, so, the person at the drive-through window said.

The day we stop learning is

The day we stop learning is the day we die. There's a lesson every day, as Keighla has pointed out in this blog; but sometimes you can't see it. For instance, Tom, how many U.S. presidents can you name? And how many have you learned because of the lessons Ling is learning? As a parent, you learn that your child can open up a whole new world for you in the "learning" department.

That's impressive! You've got a smart girl, Tom.

I didn't learn anything in

I didn't learn anything in February. However, my 2-year-old can name more than half of the U.S. Presidents and identify half by their photo.

By summer she should have them all down cold.

But here's the best part. When grandma pointed at George Bush and asked who is that? Ling said, "George Bush. I don't like him. He scare Lingy!"

And Dad or mom didn't tell her to say that. She came up with that all on her own. Smart girl! Of course, my response to that was, "Yes, Bush scares everyone - not just Lingy."

Top thing I learned in February:
Do not go another winter, ever again, without planning a trip somewhere tropical.

On rainy days, I love to

On rainy days, I love to have a warm cup of Earl Grey with a little milk and sugar and curl up in a blanket with a book.

I always make tomato soup and grilled cheese for dinner - somehow, it's become a rainy-day tradition because it cheers me up.

I don't mind the rain at

I don't mind the rain at all, providing it doesn't flood out homes like it did in Southern Minnesota or knock down trees and power lines like it did in Bloomington a few weeks ago. That's all horrible.

The simple rainy days -with no winds and lightning - are very calming and relaxing.

The rainy days tends to slow

The rainy days tends to slow things down at our home. I used the rainy days this weekend as an opportunity to do some indoor chores, but it seemed to take me forever to get things done! Maybe the sunshine makes me work faster, I don't know!
