Obama the ???????
When your

Obama the ???????

When your choices are between a guy who received 1% of the vote in Iowa and a woman who received the majority of the popular vote during your campaign, who do you choose as your VP candidate? To most of us, the choice would be obvious. To Obama, the choice was the 3rd most liberal US Senator (Obama is #1), the same guy who only received 1% of the vote in Iowa. Thus the multiple question marks. What was he thinking???

As such, many of the people who supported Clinton (the woman who received the majority of the popular vote during the Democratic primary campaign) are confused and downright angry. Some are so mad, they are going to vote for McCain. Here is a well written opinion piece by one such person.

http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentary/27505279.html?elr=KArksLck...

Obama's inexperience continues to shine through. He knows he is the most liberal senator and he picks the 3rd most liberal senator (and an unpopular one at that), ignoring the middle of the country where elections are won and lost. You can't make it up, but McCain's team is glad Obama did!

The company Obama keeps.

The following story discusses newly released documents that shed more light on Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers, the unrepentant terrorist.

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/26/newly-released-documents-highlig...

Obama's campaign of course tries to undermine criticism of the company Obama has kept by saying he doesn't agree with them now. What about the years that Obama did spend with Ayers, or for that matter Rev. Wright? Was he just not paying attention to what they were saying then, but now that he is running for President of the United States, he has conveniently grown a conscience?!? It's like then-candidate Bill Clinton saying, "I spoked marijuana but I didn't inhale". You can't make it up!

The last part of the article sums it up well.

"If he (Obama) thinks having a relationship with an unrepentant terrorist is not an issue that concerns the American people, he is deluding himself or being naive.”

McCain catching up.
As this

McCain catching up.

As this Wall Street Journal article discusses, McCain is catching up to Obama in battleground states like Minnesota in spite of Minnesota being as blue as they come: no Republican presidential candidate has carried Minnesota since Richard Nixon, a span of 36 years!

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121689893266880737.html?mod=hpp_us_whats...

As undecided voters learn more about Obama, they lean more towards McCain. With public feelings and the economy as bad as they are, this election should have been a cake walk for the Democrats. Looks like it will be anything but!

Also, experience counts for something. McCain has it, Obama does not, especially when it comes to leading, lawmaking and foreign policy.

Obama's pick for VP candidate

Joe Biden is an interesting pick for Obama's VP Candidate. He's white, older, has good foreign relations experience in the US Senate, and has run for President himself.........sounds like John McCain! Or at least a good friend of John McCain.........which Biden is!!! Give Obama credit for being shrewd and picking someone who complements him well, but history has shown that the VP candidate doesn't make a huge difference for either party in presidential elections. As we saw foreshadowed in their respective interviews with Rev. Rick Warren, McCain will eat Obama for lunch in a live debate when Obama doesn't have the benefit of teleprompters. Let the games continue!!

Obama the gasping.
Great

Obama the gasping.

Great column by Peggy Noonan in the Wall Street Journal today (click on link below). It illustrates how Obama is gasping. He is gasping for air in his political life as a presidential candidate because he has no experience to fall back on (he hasn't even completed one term in the US Senate), no high moral ground to fall back on (he refuses to say he would help ban partial birth abortion), and now he is falling back in the polls.

I think most of us can agree that the presidential campaign starts way too early. As Noonan points out, most Americans are just now starting to pay attention. In McCain, they see someone they could see as President. In Obama, they see a great public speaker (when he has a teleprompter), but someone with way less gravitas than his opponent. Like a runner who falls behind in a race in the Olympics, but still has to finish the race, Obama is gasping.

Obama on abortion
While I

Obama on abortion

While I disagreed with President Clinton's multiple decisions to veto legislation that would have banned partial birth abortion, I appreciated it when he would suggest that his goal was the abortion would be safe, legal and rare. I appreciated the rare part especially because at least that was something that could be agreed upon by both pro-life and pro-choice people, at least to some degree. While I would prefer abortion never to occur, at least the President saying it should be rare meant something. I have much preferred President Bush because he has signed legislation banning partial birth abortion, but I appreciated President Clinton saying abortion should be rare.

What is Senator Obama's view on abortion? The following Wall Street Journal piece sheds some light on that question. For example, during his time in the Illinois legislature, Obama voted against a law protecting babies who survive an abortion procedure. Think about that fact for a moment. Let that thought lean against your mind. How could anyone argue that it is wrong to protect the most innocent and helpless among us (the unborn), especially after they have survived an abortion procedure?!? It staggers the imagination.

Obama the wealth

Obama the wealth redistributor

The following piece from the Wall Street Journal does an excellent job of telling the truth about Obama's "tax cuts". They are in fact tax credits refunded to people who pay virtually no federal income tax. Where does this money come from? It comes from Obama's plan to raise federal income taxes for just about everyone who pays federal income tax. By subtracting the payouts (i.e. refundable tax credits) from the new taxes on the "wealthy", Obama can claim that taxes overall are not going up very much. It's a shell game and a massive expansion of wealth redistribution which is already deeply embedded in our federal tax code.

Also, for those who make more than $250,000, Obama proposes doubling what you pay for social security tax. So rather than increase the retirement age gradually so that the normal retirement date for social security more closely matches the actuarial life expectancy age (as it was originally set up when social security was created; 65 was the life expectancy of the average American when social security began), Obama proposes doubling the social security taxes that people pay who make more than $250,000. Say what you will about whether people who make that much money are "wealthy" or not, but again, it amounts to a massive increase in wealth redistribution in this country. We may as well call Obama "Robin Hood" because he wants to steal even more from the rich than is already stolen and give more to the poor.

When you raise taxes on the "wealthy", it creates a disincentive to make more money so the wealthy work less, start fewer companies, create fewer jobs, and ultimately find ways to characterize their income differently so they don't pay the new taxes anyway. Federal income taxes as a percentage of GDP has stayed constant for decades. People will find a way to not pay higher taxes and it results in less production, less jobs, and higher costs for consumers.

Read on and weep if you pay taxes.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121910303529751345.html?mod=opinion_main...

What a way to spin words and

What a way to spin words and meaning into the little box you want them to fit in without putting them in context or looking at the bigger picture. Sad.

Eric Roston, of the nonpartisan Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, says that any cap-and-trade program will raise the cost of electricity. As he told FactCheck.org, "The goal of cap-and-trade is to make fossil fuels more expensive, which will make new technologies competitive with them." And since Obama would be auctioning credits, Roston says that it's "not unreasonable" to label Obama's program a tax politically.

Of course, by that standard, John McCain also favors raising taxes on electricity. McCain's Web site prominently proclaims his support for a cap-and-trade program, and in 2003, McCain and then-Democrat Joe Lieberman jointly sponsored legislation that would have implemented a cap-and-trade system.

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obamas_celebrity_cred.html

I am claiming nothing. Obama claims it himself.
However there are two parts - One a direct tax -
Obama has proposed a Carbon Tax on those "dirty fuels" quoted above. He has been talking about that for a while.

He is also planning on pricing his cap and trade permits to work as a tax, in his own words.
This is very different from the current cap and trade systems in other places, as Obama himself says.

Obama wants to tax Coal and Natural Gas, he has said so.

Sorry, you try again. You're really out on a limb on this one.
You are claiming the price for the permit for a proposed cap and trade program for carbon is equating to Obama raising taxes on heating fuels. COME ON! John McCain supports a cap and trade program for carbon emissions but doesn't go into specifics.

Sorry, Try again.
Obama has on many occasions talked of the Virtue of a Carbon tax in addition or as a replacement for Cap and Trade. (Grist has one of the interviews). Also, in a legislative update release from the sierra club, they also mentioned how they have been able to move Obama from just cap and trade to Carbon tax.
Also, in Obama's own words - even his cap and trade is a tax -
"One of the mistakes the Europeans made in setting up a cap-and-trade system was to give too many of those permits away. So as I roll out my proposals for a cap-and-trade system, I will price permits so that it has much of the same effect as a carbon tax."
