The traffic signals at high-volume intersections in Burnsville and Savage will be turned off temporarily while crews make adjustments and improvements to the system.
Temporary traffic control will be used while the signal work is taking place and motorists will be required to take turns passing through the intersection as they do at non-signalized, four-way stop intersections. Motorists are advised that delays can be expected until the work is completed and the traffic signals are back on.
Affected intersections:
+ Lynn Avenue at Highway 13 in downtown – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4
+ Highway 101 at Highway 13 in western Savage – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 8
Work at the intersections of Washburn Avenue and County Road 5 took place earlier this week.
In the event of inclement weather these projects will be postponed.
This project is part of a new traffic management system being built using Urban Partnership Agreement funding and will include traffic cameras, changeable message signs, signal timing and fiber optics.
Minnesota was awarded $133.3 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s UPA program for strategies to reduce traffic congestion in the Twin Cities.
Money from the UPA will be used to reduce congestion on Interstate 35W and Highway 77 and in downtown Minneapolis. The program includes projects between downtown Minneapolis and the southern suburbs and additional transit service and park-and-ride lots on I-35W in the northern suburbs and on Highway 77.For more information on UPA, visit the project Web site at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/upa/.
