Flood Update: Minnesota River rises 3 more feet

The Minnesota River is at 705.67 feet as of 3 p.m. today, which is 3 feet higher than Friday. 

The river rose above the flood stage of 702 feet Thursday night (March 18). It can now be seen from Highway 13 in the backwater areas along the Minnesota River Valley Wildlife Refuge.



Savage jumps on Google bandwagon with county

Savage has jumped on the Google bandwagon.

That bandwagon is being driven by SCALE (Scott County Association for Leadership and Efficiency) and Scott County, which are ramping up efforts to convince Google that they ought to be a test community for high-speed broadband network.



Highways 101 and 41 to close at 6 p.m. due to flooding

The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol plan to close two Twin Cities Metro area roads today at approximately 6 p.m. due to flooding.

Highway 101 will be closed between Flying Cloud Drive and downtown Shakopee. The suggested detour route for southbound motorists is eastbound Highway 212 to southbound I-494, to southbound Highway 169, to Highway 101. Northbound motorists can reverse the route.



City ready for early arrival of floods

Flood season has arrived about a month early, as “major severity” flood forecasts are in effect in Savage for the Credit River and Minnesota River.

Last weekend, the Credit River was the cause for concern, but now all the attention is focused on the Minnesota River.

But, that’s just what 2005 Burnsville High School graduate Brad Fendler is doing. And quite happily.

The Minnesota River is at 702.37 feet as of 11 a.m. today.

The river rose above the flood stage of 702 feet last night. 

The National Weather Service is predicting the Minnesota River will continue to rise steadily to near 712.4 feet by Tuesday, March 23 and additional rises are possible after that date. Next week's predicted water level compares to a previous crest of 713.7 feet on June 26, 1993.

UPDATE: Flood warning issued for Minnesota River to reach flood stage tonight

The Minnesota River is at 701.2 feet as of 3 p.m. today and the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning as the river is expected to rise above flood stage early Friday morning.

The river is predicted to continue to rise steadily to near 712.4 feet by Tuesday, March 23 and additional rises are possible after that date. Next week's predicted water level compares to a previous crest of 713.7 feet on June 26, 1993.

The Minnesota River is at 699.29 feet as of 2 p.m. this afternoon, which is 2.16 higher than what was reported Tuesday afternoon. It is also about a foot less than the National Weather Service predictions for the river level for today.
