Al Aspengren and Tom Kraft were elected to the Credit River Township Board on Tuesday.
The township conducted a special election for two newly created supervisor seats, approved by voters in the March regular township election.
Kraft got the most votes โ 404 โ while Aspengren got 282. Greg Brown received 193 votes, while Dan Casey, who did not run, got 129 write-in votes. Casey, who previously served on the board, sought reelection in March but was defeated by Brent Lawrence and did not run in the May 6 election.
The newly elected men join Supervisors Bruce Nilsen, Leroy Schommer and Lawrence on the board.
The election of Aspengren and Kraft brings the township board to five members. Township leaders and board candidates said the move to a five-member board will better prepare the township, which is nearing a population of 5,000, for the possibility of incorporation as a city. The township board currently is researching incorporation as an option.
