Prior Lake-Savage changes course and selects superintendent finalists early
April 11, 2008 - 1:31pm — Lori Carlson
By Savage Pacer, Staff Reports In an abrupt departure from what was publically announced, the Prior Lake-Savage Area School District's superintendent advisory committee deviated from its schedule and named two finalists on Friday morning. The District 719 School Board was originally scheduled to discuss narrowing the pool of six finalists down to three at its Monday, April 14 meeting. But today, the district announced two candidates remain in the search. No details were offered by the district communication's office about what prompted the change how the selection of finalists was made.
After interviewing six finalists this week, the advisory committee narrowed its search down to Sue Ann Gruver, assistant superintendent of Mahtomedi Public Schools, and Leslie Steinhaus, district administrator of the Whitewater Unified School District in Wisconsin. The committee also decided to accelerate the timeline for interviews. Gruver will be interviewed from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 15. Steinhaus' interview will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16. Interviews will take place at the District Services Center, 4540 Tower St., S.E. Prior Lake. The committee plans to make a selection on April 16 and will make its recommendation to the School Board. The School Board will vote on the hiring of the superintendent at its April 28 meeting at 7 p.m. at the District Services Center, 4540 Tower St. SE, Prior Lake.

Back to page topI hope someone asks Leslie Steinhaus about her perceived religious intolerance while in Whitewater.
Form the comments I have seen from that district she worked, instead of creating a religious neutral school, to create religious free schools.

Back to page topChris Lind's election to the District 719 school board appeared to be a backlash response from a significant percentage of the faith community to the perception that the school district was trying to restrict religious speech off-campus. There will be more backlash if they hire a superintendent who is unfriendly to Christians.

Back to page topInterviews of these candidates are supposed to be open to the public, so I would suggest that anyone who is interested in the future leadership of the Prior Lake-Savage Area School District to attend these interviews. It's unclear as to if the public will be allowed to ask questions, but it never hurts to ask!

Back to page topNancy,
Will the Pacer be covering the background (and controversies) concerning the candidates.
Some simple searches found out that information on religion and a quick search on Whitewater school district show they rank near the bottom on graduation rates and test scores.
Would like to see some more research/background on these subjects.
Quick search didn't find much on Sue (not sure if that is good or bad).
Only thing I found were listing about her being candidate for super in other districts and that she had a facebook page.

Back to page topThanks Joanna. I knew the interviews were open to the public, but I was wondering if we could ask questions.
Here is the article that I think Robert is referring to relative to the Whitewater Superintendent.
