An open house to discuss the roundabout design options for the intersection of County Road 16 (McColl Drive) and Glendale Road/Lynn Avenue will be Thursday, July 16 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Savage City Hall, 6000 McColl Drive.
There will be a brief presentation at 5:15 p.m. Scott County and Savage city staff will be available to discuss design options and answer questions about the project.
The purpose of the open house is to notify the public of the selected project design and construction schedule. Construction staging options, including potential intersection closures, duration of closures and detour routes will also be discussed.
The focus of the project is reconstructing the intersection of McColl Drive and Glendale Road/Lynn Avenue from a signalized intersection to a two-lane roundabout. The work is primarily being funded with a federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant, with the remainder of the project funded by Scott County and Savage.
A signalized intersection and roundabout were studied by the city and council. Last year, the Savage City Council concurred with the county highway staff to move forward with the two-lane roundabout design.
The future schedule calls for right of way acquisition to begin this fall. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2010 and be completed by the fall of that same year.

Back to page topI expect more crashes with this roundabout then the way it is now. You cannot fix stupid driving by putting in a roundabout, the idiots will find a way to crash anyway. That's life, with or without stop lights. Great way to spend more tax money....politicians....what a joke.
It was obvious at the...
Back to page topIt was obvious at the "input" session that the residents in the area where this is being built DID NOT want it. As our government goes though, they didn't listen and they already had their minds made up. I'm sure those of us who live nearby or those who will drive it on a regular basis will get used to it. The problem will be with those who DO NOT know what they are doing and while the accidents will be less severe, it will still be a major pain in the butt to have to get your car fixed.
I can almost guarantee that my neighborhood will end up being a permanent "detour route" for those who don't want to drive through that monster. I suppose we'll have to petition the city or the county to have speed bumps installed.
Oh boy!!!
