Police Report: Aug. 30, 2008

The Savage Police Department issued 45 citations between Aug. 14 and 20 and responded to 308 incidents between Aug. 15 and 22. Some of the incidents included the following:

CRASHES

On Aug. 16 police responded to a crash in the 4000 block of Egan Drive that occurred when a deer ran out in front of two vehicles. According to police, a car driven by a 25-year-old man from Savage rear ended a vehicle driven by the 23-year-old man from Savage. There were no injuries.

An 18-year-old Prior Lake man was involved in a one vehicle rollover crash near Dakota Avenue and 150th Street on Aug. 17. Officers were called to an unoccupied vehicle lying on its side in the ditch. The driver was no longer at the scene of the accident, but it appeared the man climbed out the passenger side front window, police said. There were no signs of any injuries to the man. The vehicle was impounded because it was a safety hazard.

A 45-year-old man from Savage was cited for no proof of insurance after a personal-injury crash involving a 34-year-old Hopkins man was reported near Egan Drive and Quentin Avenue on Aug. 20. According to police, the Hopkins man suddenly stopped in traffic and the man from Savage rear ended the vehicle causing minor damage to both vehicles. The Hopkins man and the two passengers in his vehicle complained of neck pain and headaches and were seen by Allina. No one was transported.

DRIVING VIOLATION

A 47-year-old Prior Lake man faces charges of fleeing a police officer, giving a false name, driving after cancellation-inimical to public safety and disobeying a stop sign after he was pulled over for a stop-sign violation near Hanrehan Boulevard and Hanrehan Trail on Aug. 16. According to police, the man gave police a false name, and when the officer questioned the man’s identity, he allegedly put the car in gear and fled. Two officers pursued the vehicle until it became too dangerous, police said. Officers were able to make a positive identification of the man and the case has been forwarded to the Scott County Attorney’s Office for charges.

THEFT

On Aug. 15 a gas drive off of $55 was reported at SuperAmerica, 7881 Connelly Pkwy.

A resident of the 13900 block of Aquila Circle reported someone broke the window out of a vehicle and stole an iPod on Aug. 16. The damage to the vehicle and value of the iPod was estimated to be $370.

Theft of a pickup truck and trailer containing several thousands of dollars worth of tools and $6,000 worth of copper wire was reported by LaPointe Utilities, 8080 W. 125th St. on Aug. 18. The truck was recovered in Maplewood on Aug. 22. The truck was unoccupied, police said. The trailer was not recovered.

On Aug. 19 a Shakopee resident reported a car window broken out and the following items stolen: a purse and its contents valued at $40, a cell phone worth $150 and a check book. The crime happened while the car was parked at Life Time Fitness, 6544 Loftus Lane.

Theft of a drill and copper wire valued at $2,200 was reported from a locked trailer at Tech Electric, 5636 W. 125th St. on Aug. 20.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 4200 block of McColl Drive reported $400 in damage to a window of a vehicle after it was broken on Aug. 19.

NARCOTICS

On Aug. 16 a 17-year-old Burnsville boy was cited for possession of small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers responded to a call of juveniles smoking marijuana in the parking lot of McDonald’s, 3990 Egan Drive.

A manager at Papa John’s, 14160 S. Hwy. 13, reported that a 17-year-old boy from Savage who worked there was in possession of marijuana and the manager suspected the boy of selling it on Aug. 20. Police responded, detained the boy and found 13.3 grams of marijuana in a backpack. Police also found $3,570 cash in the boy’s pocket after conducting a search. The marijuana was packaged for sale, police said. Charges are pending.

A 17-year-old boy from Savage was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana after police observed a car parked after hours in the lot of Savage Community Park, 13500 Dakota Ave., on Aug. 21. A 17-year-old Burnsville boy was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and another 17-year-old Burnsville boy was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

LIQUOR LAW VIOLATIONS

A 19-year-old man from Spring Green, Wisc. and an 18-year-old man from Lone Rock, Wisc. were both cited for minor consumption of alcohol in the 14900 block of Dufferin Court after police were called to a car alarm that was continually going off on Aug. 16.

Two 17-year-old girls from Savage were both cited for minor consumption of alcohol and curfew violation after an officer on patrol saw the girls out after curfew in the 5200 block of Edgewater Drive on Aug. 20. A 17-year-old boy from Savage was also cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana and curfew violation.
