The Savage Police Department is accepting applications for the Citizen’s Police Academy.
The academy starts Jan. 27, 2010 and concludes with a graduation ceremony on March 3, 2010. Classes are held each Wednesday from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Classes are held at the Community Room at Savage City Hall and the Savage Police Department, unless otherwise specified, at 6000 McColl Drive.
The Citizen’s Police Academy is a six-week program, which allows members of the community to learn how their police department functions from the inside out. Students will attend weekly classes and learn about topics including the use of force, patrol operations and crime scene investigation. They will also see presentations from each division within the police department. During the academy, students will participate in hands-on exercises such as conducting traffic stops, dusting for fingerprints and firearms simulation.
To obtain an application for the Citizen’s Police Academy, contact the Savage Police Department at (952) 882-2600, pick up an application at the Savage Police Department or visit the city’s Web site and download an application. The application deadline is Jan. 8, 2010.
