Three Savage residents are among 18 people in the Twin Cities area that face federal drug charges after a marijuana growing operation was busted by drug task forces, according to Twin Cities media outlets.
More than 3,300 marijuana plants were seized, according to the reports. The marijuana was valued at more than $6 million.
Following the drug raids that occurred across the metro on June 30, 18 people were charged with conspiracy to manufacture at least 1,000 marijuana plants, according to media reports. Among the people charged were Tuan Ngoc Pham, 39, Doai Long Hoang, 40 and Thai Van Ngo, 34, all of Savage.
As the search warrants were executed, police found plants, grow lights and watering equipment in each of the homes, according to media reports. The homes where the search warrants were executed were being used as indoor gardens.
According to reports, 383 marijuana plants were seized in Savage. Another 160 marijuana plants were seized in Shakopee.
Plants also were seized in Coon Rapids, Elk River, Lake St. Croix Beach and Ramsey. Electricity to run the growing operations was stolen by tapping into the electrical system upstream from the meter, according to media reports.
Evidence of growing operations that were shut down prior to the search warrants also was found by law enforcement in Cottage Grove, St. Michael and St. Paul Park.
The raids were conducted by the West Metro Drug Task Force, along with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, according to reports.
