The Blaze's four wins were against Fergus Falls (25-9, 25-11), Bismark Century (25-18, 25-20), Hopkins (23-25, 25-23, 15-8) and Andover (25-21, 25-17). Burnsville's one loss was to No. 8-ranked Wayzata (25-20, 25-19) in the second round. The Lakers went 4-0 in the tournament, posting wins over Minnehaha Academy, Mora and Vistiation. In the title match, Sami Kemper led the Lakers with 10 kills, while Emily Holte had eight and Brittni Wangerin had six. Kathryn Gaydos had 28 setting assists, two service aces and seven digs. Katelyn Behrens had a team-high 12 digs. Prior Lake lost both matches by a 6-1 margin - to Eastview and to Smiley. The Lakers will try to get back on track on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when it plays at Red Wing in a Missota Conference match. The Lakers went on the road in their Missota Conference opener and took care of Holy Angels 19-14. Prior Lake (1-1 overall) headed into the game on the heels of a 26-10 loss to Wisconsin state power, Stevens Point Area, on Aug. 29 The Lakers scored the go-ahead touchdown with four seconds left in the first half when junior quarterback T.J. The Blaze endured another 31-point loss, this time falling 31-0 at Rosemount on Sept. 5 in a Lake Conference game. Burnsville lost its season opener 38-7 to Eastview on Aug. 29. Rosemount scored 24 points in the first half and four of its five touchdowns were 24 yards or longer. The No. 5-ranked Blaze had 145 team points, which was well behind champion Wayzata (83) and runner-up Eagan (88). The Blaze was running without one of its top performers in senior captain Sarah Daniels, who was out with a leg injury. |
