Shawn Phillips, an influential song writer, will perform two concerts to benefit the Burnsville High School Black and Gold Alumni Foundation.
The first concert starts with a 4 p.m. social hour on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Lake O’Dowd in Shakopee. Tickets are $100 and include dinner, guided boat tours of Lake O’Dowd, refreshments and a concert at 7 p.m.
The second concert kicks off with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2 at Neisen’s Sports Bar and Grill, 4851 W. 123rd St., downtown. Tickets are $50.
All concert proceeds will go to the BHS Black and Gold Alumni Foundation. Tickets are limited. For more information, e-mail info@burnsvilleblaze.com. Concert goers must be at least 21 years old.
Phillips’ resume includes teaching Joni Mitchell how to play guitar and giving George Harrison sitar lessons. He sang on the Beatles’ “Lovely Rita (Meter Maid)” from their album “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.” Phillips spent time with the Greenwich Village crowd in the heyday of Hardin, Haves, van Rock and Dylan; and lived with Donovan and Paul Simon in London. He also performed at the Isle of Wight concert in Britain.

Back to page topThis will be an unforgettable concert. I love Phillips and his songs, an artist with such a raw talent and ambition. I love his Faces album which made it to the Billboard 100. His songs are timeless and golden treasure of folk-rock.
