Students entering grades 6 through 10 can participate in “The Edge” summer program offered by Community Education in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191.
The program is offered from June 11 to Aug. 22, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Burnsville High School, 600 E. Hwy. 13. Transportation is provided to and from all three junior high schools (Eagle Ridge, Nicollet and Metcalf) every day.
Activities will include daily field trips as well as just hanging out with friends under the supervision of professional staff. The program is especially designed for this age group and students are involved in planning it and have choices available to them.
Another feature takes place at the end of each day when students participate in select enrichment activities in such areas as sports, chess and art that are led by older students, mostly from Burnsville High School. Community service opportunities will also be available.
“Kids want to be here,” said Shar Lattery, coordinator, “The program has a good reputation with both kids and parents.” She adds that The Edge is one of very few programs offered in the area for this age group.
