‘This Isn’t Normal’ gives teens something to ponder

When Martin Bracewell started writing “This Isn’t Normal,” he wasn’t sure if it was a short story or a novel.

After all, he’d never taken any kind of writing class outside of college prep English and had no formal training. But he knew he wanted to write something that showed the Hollywood version of sexuality in the 1960s didn’t exist and would give today’s teenagers something to think about.


Planning commission split on Dan Patch Trail project

Although the majority of the people who came to a public hearing last week about Dan Patch Trail debated with each other about environmental impacts, transportation and the site layout concerns were the chief reasons the Savage Planning Commission voted against the preliminary development plan.


Local chaplain is making history at RNC

For the first time the history of the Republican or Democratic conventions, 50 police chaplains will form a support network to assist law enforcement during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul next week.


13/101 intersection to be partial interchange

No one said changing the intersection of Highway 13 and County Road 101 was going to be easy.

The preliminary design calls for a partial interchange that includes a bridge for the eastbound traffic, a two-lane bypass for the westbound traffic and a signal for the left turns on and off the intersection. The plan also calls for access modifications -- specifically turning Zinran Avenue into a right turn in and closing access completely at Rhode Island and Louisiana avenues.


Fire Calls: Aug. 30, 2008

Wednesday, Aug. 20

At 9:30 a.m. firefighters responded to a call for a gas line that was severed by a contractor in the 14100 block of Ottawa Drive. The cut was sealed when firefighters arrived. Firefighters inspected the line and cleared the scene.


Police Explorers spring into action during fire

It was a case of being in the right place at the right time for three members of the Burnsville Police Explorers when an air conditioning unit caught fire atop the blue gym at Prior Lake High School last week.


Girls soccer: One goal enough for Lakers' first win

One goal was enough to give the Prior Lake girls soccer team its first win of the season.

The Lakers improved to 1-2-1 overall with a 1-0 non-conference victory over Minnetonka. Prior Lake went into the game on the heels of back-to-back shutout losses to Edina and Bloomington Jefferson.

The Lakers will start the Missota Conference season on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Northfield at 7 p.m.


Volleyball: Lakers earn first victory

The Prior Lake volleyball team earned its first win of the season on Aug. 28 with a sweep of Faribault in a non-conference match.

The Lakers (1-2 overall) rolled to a 25-18, 25-19, 25-12 victory.

Prior Lake started the season with two losses, but both were against ranked teams - No. 10 Burnsville on Aug. 21 and No. 1 Chaska on Aug. 26.

The Lakers will start the Missota Confernece season on Thursday, Sept. 4 at Holy Angels at 7:30 p.m.

 

 


Girls soccer: Blaze unbeaten streak snapped

The Burnsville girls soccer team had its three-game unbeaten streak end on Aug. 28 in a 2-1 loss to No. 9-ranked Maple Grove.

The Blaze fell to 2-1-1 overall and will now turn its attention to the Lake Conference season.

Burnsville will open the conference season on Tuesday, Sept. 2 when it plays at Lakeville North at 5 p.m.
