Burnsville closed out the Lake Conference schedule by sweeping a double-header with Lakeville South May 14.
With a mark of 11-3 (12-3 overall), the Blaze placed third in the Lake behind co-champions Eagan and Bloomington Jefferson, who both finished 13-1.
Up next for the Blaze is the Section 3AAA tournament, which runs May 19-29 at Lexington Diffley Park in Eagan.
Burnsville will most likely be the No. 4 seed behind Eagan, Park of Cottage Grove and Jefferson. With a first-round bye, the Blaze will play in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21.
Burnsville will be looking for its first state tournament appearance since capturing back-to-back Class AAA state titles in 2004 and 2005.
The Blaze appeared to be clicking on all cylinders against Lakeville South, winning the first game 10-0 and coming back to win the nightcap 8-0. Burnsville pounded out 26 hits in the two games combined.
Burnsville scored six times in the third inning of Game 1, getting hits from Lauren Smith, Jamie Lindboe, Jackie Ross, Danielle Mohr, Maggie Dunsmore and Sarah Wiens along the way.
Ross added a three-run home run in the next inning.
In Game 2, the Blaze put up back-to-back four-run innings in the fourth and fifth.
Lindboe, Ross, Jessica Wilson and Brooke Traetow all had hits in the fourth, and all four had hits in the fifth, as well.
Ross went 5-for-8 with five RBIs on the day, while Mohr went 5-for-6 with four doubles and a pair of RBIs.
Smith, who went 4-for-7 with two doubles, and Lindboe, who went 3-for-7 with four runs scored, also had big days for the Blaze.
Smith (.408), Ross (.405) and Mohr (.405) are all hitting over .400 for the Blaze this season. Ross also leads the team with 20 runs batted in, while Lindboe has scored a team-best 15 runs.
Pitchers Kelsey Anderson and Taylor Mackey teamed up for combined shutouts in both games, limiting Lakeville South to just five total hits on the day.
Anderson owns an earned-run average of 0.56 this season, having allowed just five earned runs in more than 62 innings of work.
Mackey has also enjoyed a solid season, posting a 1.13 ERA, allowing just six earned runs in more than 37 innings pitched.
The Blaze had taken on Bloomington Kennedy in another conference clash May 12 and routed the Eagles 15-5 in five innings, pounding out 19 hits along the way.
Ally Koski had a big day at the plate for Burnsville, going 2-for-4 with four runs batted in, and Shannon Mulloy collected three hits, including a home run.
Other contributors included Wiens, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Mohr, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Lindboe, who had a triple and two RBIs, Ross, who went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in, and Katie Jones, who went 1-for-3.
It was a different story against Jefferson four days earlier, however, as Burnsville was blanked 1-0.
Burnsville out-hit Jefferson 5-3 in the game but stranded seven runners on base.
Blaze hits belonged to Smith, who had two, Wiens, Ross and Koski.
Anderson was the hard-luck loser on the mound for the Blaze, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk in six innings of work.
