The cause for a Thursday (June 14) fire at a home on Hanrehan Lake Boulevard has yet to be determined, officials said, and the State Fire Marshal will join the investigation to help find it.
Prior Lake Fire Chief Doug Hartman said that the fire caused considerable damage to the home at 5215 Hanrehan Lake Blvd., and that the home is not currently livable. Prior Lake firefighters answered the call while Savage Fire Department was assisting Burnsville Fire Department at an apartment fire.
Firefighters were called at 8:16 p.m. when the homeowners apparently arrived home to find the house on fire. Hartman said the fire appears to have started on a deck outside the home and spread to the house through the attic, where it vented itself and burned a hole in the roof. The home also sustained extensive water damage.
Hartman did not provide a damage estimate but said he would consider the fire a “major structure fire.” He also noted that the area does not have fire hydrants so water had to be brought in to fight the fire. They were at the scene until about 11 p.m.
