On Tuesday, voters approved a $6.75 million levy request in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District.
Unofficial results late Tuesday indicated the levy passed by a margin of 330 votes. The tally was 6,183 to 5,853.
Now, the district will be able to erase its estimated deficit of $3.5 million, restore class sizes to the 2006-07 levels by hiring additional teachers and save the remainder to retain programs and class sizes. It would cost around $2 million to restore teacher positions.
Vicki Roy broke into happy tears when she heard the results around 11:30 p.m.
“It’s knowing that the community that’s always supported its kids is coming back and supporting its kids again,” said Roy, who is vice chairwoman of the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School Board.
