Fire Calls: March 22, 2008

Wednesday, March 5

Firefighters responded to a possible house fire at 5:12 p.m. to a home in the 3900 block of 141st Street. It was contained in the oven and had put itself out by the time the department arrived.

At 5:19 p.m., a fire alarm in an apartment building in 4300 block of 124th Street sounded. It was a false alarm.

Thursday, March 6

Firefighters responded to a call for mutual aid from the Prior Lake Fire Department at 4:20 p.m. about a home on fire in the 3200 block of 217th Street in Prior Lake. Firefighters spent three hours helping to put out the fire and supply water in the remote area.

At 6:37 p.m. firefighters went to a home in the 13900 block of Virginia Avenue to respond to a call claiming there was a smell of something burning. The furnace motor was not functioning properly and firefighters advised the homeowners to have it checked out.

There was a possible fire in a chimney in a home in the 14800 block of Oak Burrow Drive at 7:19 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they checked and cleaned the chimney to make sure there was not a fire in it.

At 9:21 p.m. a water flow alarm was going off in a home in the 5400 block of 125th Street. There was a broken sprinkler in the home and firefighters shut it down and told the homeowners to contact the sprinkler company to have it fixed.

Sunday, March 9

Firefighters responded to a mutual aid call from the Burnsville Fire Department at 6:01 p.m. for a home in the 13500 block of Judicial Road in Burnsville that was on fire. Firefighters were on the scene for three hours.

Thursday, March 13

A person called in to report the smell of natural gas in the area of Vernon and Utica avenues at 8:56 p.m. Firefighters could not smell or locate a source.

Snow was used to extinguish a fire that started in a garbage can at 11:12 p.m. in the 14500 block of Princeton Avenue. The homeowner was staining some wood and the rag being used was thrown away and spontaneously combusted.

Monday, March 17

An unknown odor was reported in a building in the 4900 block of 123rd Street at 7:52 a.m. Firefighters determined the smell was methane gas and poured water in the sewer drain to clear and vent the building.
