After accepting the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School Board’s offer to be the district’s new superintendent, Randy Clegg said he was looking forward to the transition.

“I have no apprehensions at this point,” he said. “This is an exciting opportunity, an exciting school district and I’m really looking forward to becoming a part of that team.”

Clegg, who is currently the superintendent of Clinton County Schools in Clinton, Iowa, will officially start his new position on July 1.

Until then, Clegg said he will be preparing by reading up on the district and talking to leaders. Specifically, he has requested the board policy manual and will be studying the strategic plan and budget approach.

“I want to sit down with people and get some idea as to what their priorities are,” Clegg said.

He also hopes to visit schools and staff and become familiar with the large district.

In Clinton, he was instrumental in levies passing in a district that historically had closed wallets. He developed a way to make the budget process as transparent as possible and convey, as plainly as possible, things that would be gained or lost if a levy or referendum passed.

Clegg said it was too premature to talk budget specifics in District 191, but would like to use a similar process.

An introduction reception for Clegg will be May 1 at the district’s partnership luncheon.
