Randall Raymond Quast, 48, of Savage has been charged with possession of a controlled substance after police were called to his home regarding a burglary in progress.
According to police, a neighbor called to report a burglary in the 9000 block of 137th Street. They reported seeing a man dragging a black box from the home. But when the thief noticed the neighbor looking at him, he left the case and made a phone call on his cell phone. Then he quickly jumped in another car leaving the box behind.
When officers arrived on the scene they found a window had been broken to get into the home and that the black box being dragged across the yard was actually a safe and the access panel had been damaged. When they went into the home to check for additional suspects, they saw drug paraphernalia and 9.5 grams of marijuana sitting on a bathroom counter.
When Quast came home, he said he didn’t want to talk about what was in the safe and refused to open it. Because officers noticed the drugs and paraphernalia, a search warrant was obtained.
In the safe there were three glass jars containing marijuana, $700, baggies used in drug packaging, savings bonds, a gold Rolex watch and prescription pill bottles with Quast’s name on it.
He faces five years in prison and or a $10,000 fine.
