Top things I learned in april
1. Having health insurance rocks.
After graduating and having an internship and a temp job, I was uninsured since last June, in April my health insurance kicked in. It’s such a relief to have that assurance there. Granted it is really really expensive (about $200 a month for just me!) it’s at least there.
2. You can never get enough school board meetings.
OK, that may not be the truth, but I sure feel like I spent a whole lotta time with those folks as they chose a new superintendent.
3. The Science Museum in St. Paul isn’t ready for 4 year olds.
Ben and I took Isabele to the Science Museum when she stayed the weekend at our place. She was unimpressed. I think it was all a bit too mature for her still. She did like the exhibit where she could play with colorful shadows and lights, but the dinosaurs weren’t too cool. She also wouldn’t go into the cartoon exhibit because “it smells funny in there!” It was a good effort, but she was much more content playing with dolls back in the living room.
4. Tax returns were not too terrible this year.
Paying the interest on my student loan may have been a pain a few months ago, but it helped bring in a nice return this month.
5. The Savage Police Department goes back.
Working on the 50 year anniversary of the department, I learned a lot about both Savage and the department, furthermore, I remembered how much I love history. I immersed myself in the Heritage Center in the library and thumbed through tons of files and stories. I’ve always been interesting in history, but I forgot how easy it is to lose track of time when you’re messing around in it.
6. All my friends are growing up.
I have some friends buying houses, others having babies, others getting married, some graduating and others doing a few of these things at the same time. If they’re all adults, I think that makes me one too. I was in such a rush to finish school, now I’m jealous some of them will get three months off before having to do anything.
