Supplying children with all the essentials to begin a new school year can be quite costly, especially for families with lim-ited financial means and the CAP Agency is hosting a project to get those supplies to families in need.
“We figure parents end up spending, per child, a minimum of $100 each year on back to school supplies,” said Linda Shel-ton, CAP Agency Community Services Director.
From kindergartners excited about their first day in school to teenagers anxious to fit in with the crowd, donated school supplies make a big difference to these young people. The sup-plies include the basics like notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons and folders. Additionally there is a need for supplies for older students such as scientific calculators, metal compasses and protractors. In 2007, the project served over 2,000 Scott and Carver county children.
Schools, churches or organizations interested in hosting a school supply drive on behalf of the CAP Agency are asked to contact Linda Shelton at (952) 402-9856. The Agency is request-ing that donations be dropped off by August 18 to be distributed by August 23 distribution. Donations are accepted between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the CAP Agency, 712 Canterbury Road S., Shakopee, or at CAP Agency, 110650 Village Road, Chaska.
For more information contact the CAP Agency at (952) 496-2125 or visit its Web site at www.capagency.org [1].
