Police Report: Aug. 16, 2008

The Savage Police Department issued 35 citations between July 31 and Aug. 6 and responded to 259 incidents between Aug. 1 and 8. Some of the incidents included the following:

CRASHES

A 25-year-old Rochert, Minn. man was involved in a property-damage crash after his brakes failed while pulling into the parking lot of Advanced Auto Parts, 7444 Egan Drive on Aug. 1. The man’s car hit the building and started on fire while in the parking lot. There were no injuries.

On Aug. 2 a property-damage crash involving a 25-year-old man from Savage and a 79-year-old man from Savage was reported in the 5600 block of West 136th Street Court. It was reported that the 25-year-old man backed into the 79-year-old man’s vehicle that was illegally parked in the middle of the cul-de-sac. There were no injuries or citations.

Police assisted the state patrol with a two-car crash with unknown injuries near Highway 13 and County Road 42 on Aug. 4. The state patrol completed the accident report.

An 18-year-old Prior Lake woman reported a hit-and-run crash at Kindercare Learning Center, 14014 Hwy. 13, on Aug. 5.

DWI

A 53-year-old Bloomington man was arrested for third-degree DWI, second-degree test refusal and improper lane use after being stopped for an equipment violation, speeding and poor driving conduct near Highway 13 and 150th Street on Aug. 3.

On Aug. 3 a 22-year-old Minneapolis woman was arrested for second-degree DWI after officers received a complaint about her driving conduct near Highway 13 and Lynn Avenue. The woman’s blood alcohol content was .25 (more than three times over the legal limit) and she had a 14-year-old child in the car, according to police.

THEFT

Worthless check charges are pending against a 40-year-old woman from Savage for writing a bad check for the amount of $720 on Aug. 1 at the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 13875 Hwy. 13.

On Aug. 1, Tarps Inc., 7329 W. Hwy. 13, reported a worthless check for the amount of $641. Charges are pending against a 48-year-old woman from Savage.

A resident reported that someone entered a fenced storage area in the 8000 block of West 125th Street and stole $9,300 worth of copper wire on Aug. 1.

On Aug. 1 a resident of the 14500 block of Hunters Lane reported a fire pit valued at $150 was stolen from their yard.

The theft of a purse valued at $121 and a MP3 player valued at $100 were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 13800 block of. Edgewood Avenue on Aug. 1. The case is under investigation.

Public Storage, 7801 W. 141st St., reported someone entered the office and stole $1,000 in cash and more than $1,000 in checks on Aug. 2. There was no sign of forced entry.

On Aug. 3 a resident of the 13900 block of Ventura Place reported her 15-year-old daughter withdrew $320 from her checking account. The case is under investigation.

Prior Lake Rental, 15233 S. Hwy. 13, reported the theft of $4,000 worth of construction equipment that has not been returned on Aug. 5.

Theft of a wallet with $80 cash and credit cards from an unlocked vehicle was reported by a resident of the 4100 West 136th Street on Aug. 6. One of the credit cards was used for the amount of $5.86.

On Aug. 6 a resident of the 13400 block of Huntington Avenue reported theft of an electric plug-in adaptor valued at $50 from an unlocked vehicle.

Theft of $2 in change was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 4000 block of West 135th Street on Aug. 6.

On Aug. 7 a resident of the 9300 block of Woodridge Circle reported theft of a laptop, global positioning unit and a bag stolen from a vehicle parked in a garage that was left open overnight. The items were valued at $1,000.

A resident of the 4000 block of West 136½ Street reported the theft of a DVD player, sunglasses and change valued at $200 on Aug. 7.

On Aug. 8 a 16-year-old boy from Savage was arrested for possession of stolen property, tampering with a motor vehicle, curfew violation and minor consumption of alcohol after police received a complaint of someone breaking into vehicles in the 13400 block of Glenhurst Avenue. Residents in the neighborhood detained the boy until police arrived. Two other boys fled. The boy was in possession of two global positioning units, an iPod, a phone charger and $35 in cash. Criminal charges are pending against four people.

FRAUD

A resident of the 7100 block of McCann Court reported that someone used a credit card number to make fraudulent charges on Aug. 3. The suspect bought $2,970 worth of airplane tickets.

On Aug. 4 a resident of the 8400 block of West 149th Street reported an unauthorized credit card charge worth $508.
