Mayor Williams greets Easter Bunny

Mayor Janet Williams was at the Egg Hunt and Craft activity Saturday morning at the McColl Pond Environmental Learning Center (ELC) and took time out to get her picture snapped with the Easter Bunny. After completing craft activities at the ELC, children and their parents ventured outside to grab up eggs that blanketed a baseball field at Community Park. A slideshow of photos and a video will be posted later this week. (Staff photo by Nancy Huddleston)

Flood Update: Minnesota River rises 3 more feet

The Minnesota River is at 705.67 feet as of 3 p.m. today, which is 3 feet higher than Friday. 

The river rose above the flood stage of 702 feet Thursday night (March 18). It can now be seen from Highway 13 in the backwater areas along the Minnesota River Valley Wildlife Refuge.



Savage jumps on Google bandwagon with county

Savage has jumped on the Google bandwagon.

That bandwagon is being driven by SCALE (Scott County Association for Leadership and Efficiency) and Scott County, which are ramping up efforts to convince Google that they ought to be a test community for high-speed broadband network.

But, that’s just what 2005 Burnsville High School graduate Brad Fendler is doing. And quite happily.



City Council to declare 'state of emergency' Monday regarding flooding

The Savage City Council will hold a special meeting at 7:15 a.m. Monday, March 22 to address  anticipated flooding from the spring thaw. 

The City Council will be asked to pass a resolution declaring a state of emergency. The action is a proactive step necessary to ensure that the city will be eligible for aid or assistance from other jurisdictions – including state and federal agencies – should a full flood response be necessary. A number of other municipalities throughout the state have passed similar resolutions in anticipation of flooding in their communities.
